The Manufacturing Excellence Awards reward and celebrate industrial undertakings with best and innovative business practices, including quality of work in the production and supply chain, environmental initiatives, human resource development and contribution to growth of the regional and national economy.

The award was presented by Nikos Papathanasis, Deputy Minister of Development & Investment – Industry & Trade, and wasreceived on behalf of DEMO SA by Maritina Balaoura, Manufacturing Operations Director -Glass Containers

I am delighted to receive this award, today, on behalf of DEMO S.A management and I would like to thank you for this honour. An award like this is very important to us because it testifies to our company’s upward trajectory. The company was founded in 1965 by Stavros Demos, and currently comprises 4 manufacturing plants, covering a total area of 57,000 m2, and 920 trained employees.

DEMO is an official supplier to many international organizations, including the World Health Organisation, UNICEF and the United Nations. However, we are certainly not intending to rest on our laurels, as is demonstrated by the €35 million we have invested over the past three years in modernizing our machinery and expanding our production and warehousing facilities, an investment which triples and, in some cases, quadruples the company’s manufacturing capacity.

In closing, I would like to dedicate this award to the Demos family, who are always by our side, ready to invest in the manufacturing divisions, and of course, to all the personnel who have supported the company’s vision and aspirations over the years”, said Ms Balaoura, in her short speech.

The event was launched by the Judging Committee Chairman, Dionysis Nikolaou (General Manager of diaNEOsis), with praise for the dynamism and efforts of all the nominees, who have proven that they can thrive and excel even in times of crisis.  He congratulated the winners and encouraged them to continue with the same creativity and love for their work, stressing that: “In such an adverse economic and business environment they are all winners, because they dared, they created, and they accepted the challenge to lay themselves open to comparison and noble competition. We exhort the award-winning companies to rigorously persevere with retaining their place in a world which is constantly changing. In the words of Demosthenes: “It is more difficult to preserve than to acquire”.
